2012: Focus on Environment, Education & Empowerment

Focus 2012

A New Year means new beginnings for many of us.  Some of you may have set goals and a list of things you want to accomplish by 2013.  But here at Wise Latinas Linked, we're hoping to put focus on education, the environment and our empowerment.   

If you're a member of Wise Latinas Linked on Facebook and Linkedin; you know that our virtual group is about embracing and empowering all Latinas.  We do this by sharing information about everything from financial tips to career advice and even job opportunities.

But this coming year, we're hoping you'll do your part to empower, educate and be a watchdog on the environment.

EMPOWERMENT

Empowerment

We challenge you to focus not only on empowering yourself but also others.  Whether its mentoring a young person to make good choices in his/her life or even helping a battered woman rebuild her lfe.  There are different ways to empower.  Here's how Dictionary.com defines empowerment:

1.to give power  or authority to; authorize, especially by legal or official means: I empowered my agent to make the deal for me. The local ordinance empowers the board of health to close unsanitary restaurants.

2.to enable or permit: Wealth empowered him to live a comfortable life.

EDUCATION

What kind of education is being offered to kids in your school system; elementary, junior high, high school and college?  Even if you don't have kids ---you should care.  Remember if students are not getting a good education they could lose out in life.   Education opens doors, builds the roads to careers and opportunity.

Dictionary.com defines education:

1.the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.

2.the act or process of imparting or acquiring particular knowledge or skills, as for a profession.

3.a degree, level, or kind of schooling: a university education.

4.the result produced by instruction, training, or study: to show one's education.

5.the science or art of teaching; pedagogics.

ENVIRONMENT

Environment

We're not saying stop using you electricity or stop driving your car.  What we're saying is focus on what you can learn about the environment.  How can we save it from being ruined by man?.   Don't just care about what's going on in your backyard, but also what's going on on the other side of the world. The bottom-line: No planet, no life for us. 

Dictionary.com defines environment:

1.the aggregate of surrounding things, conditions, or influences; surroundings; milieu.

2.Ecology . the air, water, minerals, organisms, and all other external factors surrounding and affecting a given organism at any time.

3.the social and cultural forces that shape the life of a person or a population.

4.Computers . the hardware or software configuration, or the mode of operation, of a computer system: In a time-sharing environment, transactions are processed as they occur.

5.an indoor or outdoor setting that is characterized by the presence of environmental art  that is itself designed to be site-specific.

IT'S A START

We all live busy lives---but take a moment and think how quality education, empowerment and saving our environment will make us better humans.  Now that will make 2012.
